Removing Peel and Stick Wallpaper

Removing our Self-Adhesive Vinyl wallpaper is simple and straightforward—much like peeling away a large sticker.

Begin by gently lifting one corner of the wallpaper and slowly peeling it away from the wall. Take your time during the removal process, as a slow, steady motion helps minimize the risk of paint lifting or surface damage.

If the wallpaper has been installed on a smooth, non-porous surface such as glass, you can use a hair dryer on a low heat setting to gently warm the adhesive. This will help soften the bond and make removal even easier.

Once you've lifted a corner, continue peeling the wallpaper away using both hands, pulling at approximately a 45-degree angle until the panel is completely removed.

Removing Bubbles From Your Wallpaper

Bubbles can occur on your panels when there is an air pocket present causing your panels to not lay flat on your wall. Not to worry though, we can help.

Using a utility knife or needle/push pin poke a small hole in the bubble. You will then take your smoothing tool and work the air out of the bubble using your hand or your smoothing tool. This should do the trick to remove any stubborn bubbles trapped under your panel. 

Removing bubbles is extremely important as air pockets lead to adhesion failure.

Preventing Open Seams

Open seams can occur for a variety of reasons during wallpaper installation. Fortunately, most are easy to prevent with proper preparation and installation techniques. Below are the most common causes and how to avoid them when installing Hannah Langford Designs Luxe Traditional Wallpaper.

1. Improper Wall Preparation

A properly prepared surface is essential for a successful installation. Walls with old paint, uneven patches, excessive porosity, or poor surface preparation can affect adhesion and create tension as the wallpaper dries, causing seams to separate.

To avoid this: Ensure walls are clean, smooth, dry, and properly primed before installation. Remove loose paint, repair imperfections, and follow all recommended wall preparation guidelines.

2. Wallpaper Drying Too Quickly

If the room is excessively warm or exposed to drafts from open windows, fans, or HVAC vents, the wallpaper may dry faster than the adhesive can properly cure. This uneven drying process can place stress on the seams, causing them to open.

To avoid this: Install wallpaper in a temperature-controlled room and avoid direct airflow until the adhesive has fully cured.

3. Insufficient Adhesive Along the Seams

Paper-based wallpaper requires even adhesive coverage, especially along the edges. If too little paste is applied—or if the edges begin to dry before installation—the seams may not bond properly.

To avoid this: Apply an even coat of wallpaper paste across the entire back of each panel, paying close attention to the edges without overapplying. When booking (folding) the wallpaper, carefully align the edges to keep them fully covered and prevent them from drying out. Follow the recommended booking time before installation to ensure proper adhesion.

With careful wall preparation, the correct amount of adhesive, and proper installation conditions, your wallpaper will have the best opportunity to achieve beautiful, long-lasting results.
